Virtual Board Meetings are Permanent Options
The pandemic spurred creative solutions to getting on with life. Some of these proved to be so popular, and made so much sense, that there's no turning back (outdoor dining being a prime example).
Here's a big one that affects NYC co-op and condo buildings. Pre-pandemic, boards were required to hold meetings and vote on decisions in person. A temporary executive order changed that by allowing board meetings to be held virtually.
Recently Governer Hochul made the order permanent and signed it into law. It also allows voting on decisions and resolutions electronically, such as by email or text.
Boards can still meet in person if they choose to. Still, this extra flexibility offers the opportunity for increased participation by homeowners and speedier decision-making. Given that board meetings are normally held after work hours, the possibility of attending them from home in a comfy pair of sweats with your favorite companion can be pretty appealing.
