Happy 200th Birthday, Fifth Avenue!
Fifth Avenue, one of the most famous streets in New York City, was born in Greenwich Village two hundred years ago on November 1, 1824. In celebration, Village Preservation has created a painstakingly researched and illustrated interactive StoryMap. It tells the story of every single site on the avenue south of 14th St. (90% of which are still only the first or second building on the lot).
We've got a special affinity for Lower Fifth Avenue since we both live and work there, so we found the StoryMap extra fascinating. Seeing the mansion and stable that existed where our co-op now sits was pretty cool. Whether or not you live in the area, we hope you'll find it as interesting and engaging as we do.
